One of the highlights of the ceremony was the conferral of the prestigious “Lifetime Achievement Award” upon the legendary Usher. This esteemed honor was presented by industry luminaries Baby Face and L.A. Reid, who paid tribute to Usher’s enduring impact on the music world. The accolade was further celebrated through a dazzling musical tribute, featuring an all-star lineup of performers, including Chlöe Bailey, Childish Gambino, KeKe Palmer, CoCo Jones, Tinashe, Latto, and many more. This spectacular medley showcased Usher’s most iconic hits, cementing his status as a true R&B icon. The celebrated artist also took home the coveted award for “Best Male R&B/Pop Artist,” a testament to his continued influence and success in the industry.
Throughout the evening, over a dozen prestigious awards were bestowed upon some of the most talented individuals in the industry. Among the notable winners was the talented Victoria Monet, who shone brightly with her first-ever BET Award win.
Killer Mike’s magnum opus, “Michael”, continued its reign supreme, clinching the coveted “Album of the Year” award. The iconic rapper was handed the prestigious trophy by the talented Childish Gambino, who was also a nominee and a show-stopping performer at the event.
In another highlight of the ceremony, the talented Tems, representing Nigeria, was honored with the Dr. Bobby Jones Best Gospel/Inspirational Award for her soul-stirring single “Me & U”. This well-deserved recognition cemented her status as a rising star in the music industry.
Meanwhile, the South African Act, Tyla made a memorable mark on the night, sweeping two prestigious awards “Best New Artist” and “Best International Act” following a phenomenal year that showcased her artistry and global appeal.
Tee Grizzley and Mariah the Scientist closed out the BET Awards 2024 Red Carpet Live Preshow with their performance of “IDGAF.” Their collaborative effort and powerful vocals left a lasting impression, rounding out a night filled with diverse and engaging musical performances.
